Cal Middle, School of Engineering and Sciences earn state Gold Ribbon status
California Middle School and the School of Engineering and Sciences are among 275 middle and high schools honored by the California Department of Education under the Gold Ribbon Schools Awards Program. State Superintendent Tom Torlakson announced the honorees on April 18. Only eight schools in Sacramento County were recognized.
The Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program, which is on hiatus while California creates new assessment, accountability and continuous improvement systems. 477 middle schools and high schools applied this year. Award recipients were recognized for gains made in implementing academic and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education and are also highly successful in school climate efforts.
