The United States Navy is coordinating Navy Weeks across the country for the Navy Office of Community Outreach (NAVCO). They are looking to explore opportunities to engage with students in the Sacramento City Unified School District during the upcoming Sacramento Navy Week.

Sacramento Navy Week will take place from March 17-23, 2025. As part of this outreach initiative, they aim to connect with students across various disciplines, including STEM, history, and music. While they’ve already established a connection with the NJROTC program, they would love to expand reach and engage with students beyond NJROTC to inspire and educate them about the Navy’s impact on these fields. This isn’t focused on recruiting; rather, it’s an opportunity to give students a deeper understanding of the Navy—its missions, values, and the important work it does

Navy Weeks are a vital community outreach initiative, showcasing the Navy’s global operations and emphasizing the service’s role in safeguarding our way of life. We conduct 75-100 outreach events during each Navy Week, including school visits, STEM and history programs, performances by Navy bands, volunteer activities, and opportunities for students to meet with Sailors from various Navy commands.

The content they provide is scalable, allowing them to engage students from elementary through high school. They offer both classroom and auditorium presentations, ensuring flexibility to meet various needs. In the past, the supporting Navy Band has hosted masterclasses with high school bands, leveraging the expertise of musicians who hold advanced degrees, including many with Master’s and Ph.D.s. These talented performers can also deliver engaging auditorium performances.

In addition, they’ve had Sailors from the Navy’s Meteorology and Oceanography Command present STEM-related content on weather and environmental science, providing valuable insights into critical topics. The Naval History and Heritage Command can offer compelling presentations on U.S. Navy history, particularly as it pertains to California. We’ve also featured the Ceremonial Guard, who perform stunning rifle routines for live audiences, adding an extra element of pride and tradition. They have Sailors from a wide range of careers who can speak on topics such as photojournalism, engineering, computer science, leadership, and much more, offering unique insights into diverse fields.
