New Students

State Issued I.D., or other photo identification (Work Badge, Passport, Student I.D., Costco card)

Please be advised that for the safety and security of all children, only the parent(s), legal guardian(s) or educational rights holder(s) may enroll a child into our district. The parent, legal guardian or educational rights holder who enrolls the child will be required to present photo identification.

Name on I.D. must match the name on the bill issued within 30 days. 

Bring one (1) or other options listed under (Ed. Code 48204.1):

a. Utility service contract, statement, or payment receipts

b. Property tax payment receipts

c. Rental property contract, lease with payment receipts

d. Voter registration

e. Correspondence from a government agency

f. Pay stubs

No Address Verification in Your Name?

If you are the parent/legal guardian or educational rights holder and DO NOT have address verification in your name, submit one (1) of the following based on your housing situation:

• Primary/permanent residence: If you live in a Primary/Permanent Residence, submit a completed and signed Address Affidavit (English, Spanish, Hmong, Chinese, Farsi, or Vietnamese) by you and with the required Documentation. 
• Unhoused/homeless: If you are unhoused/homeless, submit a completed and signed Housing Survey (English, Spanish, Hmong, Chinese, Farsi or Vietnamese)

Local registrar or county issued birth certificate, duly attested baptism certificate, or a passport.

When none of the foregoing is obtainable, the parent/guardian may provide any other appropriate means of proving the age of the child (Ed. Code 48002)

California schools are required to check immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade. Parent/guardians must upload their child’s Immunization Record as proof of immunization. Both name and date of birth must be on the immunization record.

SCUSD is also offering free Immunization Clinics to eligible students.

Applications are processed in the order they are received and may take 7–14 business days to complete. A technician will contact you once your application has been reviewed and processed.

To prevent delays, please ensure that all required documents have been submitted. Incomplete applications cannot be processed.

Sacramento City Unified School District strives to place all K-12 students at their neighborhood school—and with their siblings whenever possible—during the general registration period, based on established attendance boundaries. However, depending on registration timing and school capacity, students may be assigned to an alternate site with available space.

Families residing within district boundaries may request placement at a different school through the School Choice application process or by submitting an intra-district permit request.

Families residing outside of district boundaries must submit an inter-district transfer permit request to be considered for enrollment in a Sacramento City Unified school.

The "Allen Bill" refers to a provision in California law, specifically California Education Code Section 48204(b), that allows a student to be considered a resident of a school district based on a parent or guardian's employment within the district's boundaries.

The Sacramento City Unified School District interprets the Allen Bill in the following way:

A parent/guardian who resides outside the SCUSD boundaries but works at least 10 hours a week in the district boundaries can establish residency by:

1. Requesting an inter-district permit to the neighborhood school associated with the work address.  A statement on letterhead from the employer verifying employment and the work address within the SCUSD boundaries must be uploaded to the permit request application.
2. If space is available and the permit request is approved, residency is established once the student has attended the school for a full academic year.

After establishing residency, students can apply for any school choice programs in the district.
