Career Readiness

We want our students to discover their passion and purpose, to dream big, and to have opportunities, regardless of what industry they plan to enter after high school. Not every student has the means or desire to attend a college or university, and we believe that a key part of ensuring our students are set up for success is to expose them to skilled trade possibilities, work-based learning, and potential employers in our region looking to recruit the next generation of our workforce. Our approach to workforce development makes life-changing social mobility accessible and promotes a more equitable future.
Career Technical Education (CTE)
Career Technical Education refers to courses and experiences that provide training in academic, vocational, trade, and technical pathways, often through hands-on learning that engages students’ creativity and skill-building. Sac City Unified middle and high school students can specialize in subjects that ignite their imaginations and prepare them to join the workforce in a variety of industry sectors, such as engineering, healthcare, computer programming, culinary arts, law enforcement, entrepreneurship, visual and performing arts, and more.
High School Pathways and Academies
We are committed to helping all of our students achieve their dreams. This work becomes more focused in our high schools, launching pathways to life after graduation. Because every student’s dreams are unique, we offer numerous programs and courses within our high schools to appeal to learners with a range of interests. Students may apply to schools offering pathways that interest them each year during our inter- and intra-district permit transfer application window.

Our CTE Advisory Committee includes business partners, community leaders, parents, students, educators, and other interested parties. This committee discusses recruitment, placement, and retention of middle and high school students in CTE classes, CTE program funding, local labor markets, and strategic school/business partnerships. Subcommittees address specific population needs of target groups that are historically underserved in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of CTE programs.
