Requesting a School Transfer: District Permits

Sac City Unified offers two types of school transfer permits: Intra-District and Inter-District.

Intra-District Permits are available to families who reside within Sac City Unified boundaries. Inter-District Permits are for families who reside outside the district.

The application window for 2026–2027 intra-district and incoming inter-district permits for will open on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 8:00 a.m. and close on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

Due to the unprecedented number of applications submitted through the TK Lottery, district permit requests are not available for Transitional Kindergarten.

Intra-District Permit Requests (Transfers Within SCUSD)

If you live within SCUSD boundaries and would like your student to attend a different SCUSD school (not your neighborhood school), you can apply for an Intra-District Permit.

Permits are approved based on space availability at the requested school or program.
Permit requests for the next school year are accepted in the spring during the District Permit process, which includes both intra-district and inter-district applications.
Intra-district permits can be submitted at anytime for the district's Dual Immersion programs.

Inter-District Permit Requests (Transfers Into or Out of SCUSD)

If you are seeking to release your student from the district for the 2026–2027 school year, the application will open on January 12, 2026.

Transferring Into SCUSD from Another District

If your family lives outside of SCUSD boundaries and you would like your child to attend a school within SCUSD, follow these steps:

Request an Inter-District Transfer Permit (ITP) from your home district.
Your home district must approve the ITP.
Submit your request through SchoolMint, including the approved ITP and any supporting documents.

Permits into SCUSD are approved based on space availability.
You can apply at any time for the current school year.
Permit requests for the next school year are accepted in the spring during the District Permit process, which includes both intra-district and inter-district applications.

**Transferring Out of SCUSD to Another District**

If you live within SCUSD and want your child to attend a school in another district, follow these steps:

Complete an Inter-District Transfer Permit (ITP) application.
Submit the application and supporting documents using the webform below.

You may submit this request at any time throughout the year.

SchoolMint makes it easy to apply online from anywhere, track your application status, and receive updates in real time.
Learn how to navigate the system and submit your student's application with ease.

It is strongly encouraged, to add an email address to your SchoolMint Guardian account so that you receive complete communications from the district and not just reminders via text message to check messages on SchoolMint.

Once a SchoolMint account is created, add your student(s) to the account.

Current SCUSD Students

Select Yes for the question, “Is your student currently enrolled in Sacramento City Unified School District?”
Enter your student's Student ID number, first and last name, & date of birth.

This information allows SchoolMint to pull in existing information on file in Infinite Campus, SCUSD’s Student Information System for your student.

New Students to SCUSD

Select No for the question, “Is your student currently enrolled in Sacramento City Unified School District?” to manually enter your student’s information into SchoolMint.
Make sure to select your student's home address from the dropdown list that appears as you type. This ensures the address is properly verified by the system.
Information entered will be verified.

Technical Assistance

The Enrollment Center offers computers and scanners for families to complete and submit applications, with staff available to assist.
